How to Browse or Surf the Internet free with your Blackberry Smartphone without paying for a data plan

Now that you already know How to Connect your BlackBerry Phone to a Laptop as a modem to connect you to the Internet using a laptop – Blackberry Connectivity via a USB cord, How about surfing with your Blackberry on the go i.e. when you are not using your phone attached to your laptop, but you Blackberry Smartphone only.

The BlackBerry Smartphone allows you to have access to various applications (apps) and add-ons and they all require that you subscribe to any of the Blackberry Internet service (BIS) or Blackberry Enterprise Servers (BES) for them to work effectively and efficiently with your Blackberry Smartphone. Buying a data plan allows you browse the internet as well as making you have full control of these apps. Depending on your network provider, you can browse free with your Blackberry Smartphone.

The trick is that your GSM Internet service provider pushes you to buy a data plan for you to be able to have access to the internet and RIM (Blackberry Manufacturers) doesn’t give you information for internet access without data plan as well, meanwhile the phone is capable of accessing internet without a data plan.

I own a Blackberry 9700 Smartphone and I did try surfing free with it. My network provider is MTN Nigeria, and it did work for me. This article will teach you how to make your Blackberry or any other Smartphone to browse the internet for free. I believe the same settings works for all Blackberry Smartphone models, I haven’t tried it for other phones yet but all you need to know is you country’s telecommunications network provider/GSM Internet Service Provider settings.

To do this you have to make some adjustments within you Smartphone settings. First of all you have to set up your tcp settings. To do this, identify you Blackberry network settings by first starting from your BlackBerry menu, then go to => OptionsAdvanced OptionsTCP and enter your APN information for your GSM Service. You can find TCP APN settings in the list below. This setting is for those using Blackberry with iOS version 5.0 and below.

While for those using ios version 6.0 and above, start from Blackberry menu, then goto =>Options=>Device=>Scroll down to advance system settings=>scroll down again to TCP IP, now you can find your APN settings. By default, you will find a Setting that is provided by RIM or by your Blackberry Smartphone brand issuer network. Change these settings to your current Internet network provider settings and you are there

When you finish the settings you need a browser to surf the net. The best one is Opera Mini Browser. You will have to download the Opera mini Browser to your BlackBerry Smartphone and in the Opera Browser menu you go through automatic network setup. Once the Opera Browser detects your settings you are ready to surf the net from you BlackBerry for free. (Excluding standard connection charges from your GSM service provider)

Please note: Since you are not subscribed to any of the Blackberry data plans, some of your apps may not work with this setting.
